About SCMTA

Who We Are

Originally established in 1988 under the moniker ‘Schoolcraft County Snowmobile Association’ we merged with the local ORV club in 2013 to combine resources and manpower thus forming the Schoolcraft County Motorized Trails Association.

The SCMTA grooms and maintains 149 miles of designated winter trails for snowmobilers and 32 miles of designated trails for ORV/ATV enthusiasts in Michigan’s beautiful Central Upper Peninsula. To accomplish this our volunteers spend countless hours securing funding through a complex grant writing system and/or submitting for the designated State funds we are entitled to. That funding enables everything from special improvement projects like trail grading, bridge repair/replacement, equipment upkeep, brushing and signing of trails to our winter grooming operations.

These projects and programs require an enormous amount of time and effort. As an ALL VOLUNTEER organization we are thankful for the dedication and commitment of our members. This diligence allows us to boast one of the best maintained trails systems in Michigan and the Upper Mid-West.
